Former New York Giants running back Matt Breida is signing with the San Francisco 49ers, reports ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Breida entered the league in 2017 when he signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent. He spent three years in San Francisco before he was traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2020. He stayed there for one season and played in Buffalo for a season before joining the Giants in 2022.
Entering his eighth season in the NFL, Breida is returning to the place where it all started for him. His first three seasons were his most productive as a running back, recording 381 carries for 1,902 yards, six touchdowns, and four fumbles. He added 67 receptions for 561 yards and four touchdowns.
Breida likely won’t enjoy the same production this season as he did when he was with the 49ers previously because the Niners added Christian McCaffrey to their roster, and they have guys like Brandon Aiyuk (for now), Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle to catch the ball.
During his tenure with the Giants, Breida played behind Saquon Barkley. He appeared in 34 games for Big Blue, recording 371 yards on 109 carries, two touchdowns, 20 first downs, and zero fumbles. He also caught 37 passes for 206 yards.
