Week 7 Dynasty Nerds App League Preview

Week 7 Dynasty Nerds App League Preview

Welcome back Nerds! It’s Week 7 for the Dynasty Nerds App League after an eventful Week 6. As we approach the halfway point of the fantasy football regular season, the NFL continues to bring us the triumph of last-second victories and the heartbreak of unpredictable upsets.

Week 6 NFL Recap | Headlines

We begin in the City that Never Sleeps, where Jaxson Dart and the New York Football Giants upset the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 34-17. Cam Skattebo took the Eagles defense behind the woodshed en route to 3 rushing touchdowns.

Baker Mayfield is playing like the league’s most valuable player right now as the Bucs continue their success in a win over the 49ers. Baker tossed two touchdowns as Tampa moved to an NFC-best 5–1.

Could we see a Bucs-Colts Super Bowl? The upstart Indianapolis Colts and Daniel Indiana Jones defeated the Arizona Cardinals 31-27 to also move to 5-1 on the season. Jones threw for 2 touchdowns and rushed for another. Jonathan Taylor is the NFL’s leading rusher through six games, and with a soft schedule, is it time to ask whether the Colts are for real?

The nightmare season for the Baltimore Ravens continued with a 17-3 loss to the Rams. Baltimore’s short-handed offense again stalled without Lamar Jackson, while the Rams were able to grind out a victory despite an ankle injury to Puka Nacua.

Sticking in the AFC North and speaking of nightmare seasons, the Bengals’ woes without Joe Burrow continued in a 28-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Josh Jacobs gutted out flu-like symptoms on his way to 150 yards from scrimmage and 2 touchdowns. As he goes, so goes the Packers offense.

Aaron Rodgers led the Steelers to a win over the rival Cleveland Browns, throwing 2 touchdowns in a 23-9 win. The Browns moved the ball up and down the field, but just could not finish the scoring drives in the end zone. Their anemic offensive output was bested in embarrassment only by Justin Fields and the New York Jets having a worse showing across the pond in London in a 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos. The Jets’ offense managed negative net passing yards, so if you are reading this, congratulations on having more passing yards this past weekend than a (supposedly) professional football team.

In an eagerly anticipated matchup on Sunday Night Football, the Chiefs hammered the Lions 30-17 in a game that never felt close. Patrick Mahomes continued his fantasy resurgence with 3 passing touchdowns and another on the ground.

To round out the weekend, we had two big Monday Night Matchups. First, the Atlanta Falcons upset the Buffalo Bills 24-14. Bijan Robinson exploded to the tune of 238 total yards, sealing victory for many fantasy managers. A few hours north in our nation’s capital, the Chicago Bears came to town and defeated the Washington Commanders on a last-second Jake Moody field goal. The Bears rode D’Andre Swift’s big night to a much-needed win in the race for the NFC playoffs.

Fantasy Arrow Up

  • Atlanta’s Fantasy Hogs: Huge weeks by Bijan Robinson and Drake London are what happens when talent meets usage. They are locked-in fantasy assets.
  • Revenge, Thy Name is Rico: Facing his former team, Rico Dowdle exploded for 183 yards rushing and 56 more through the air. Should Chuba Hubbard managers be nervous? Who takes a back seat in the Carolina backfield when Chuba returns from injury? Meanwhile, don’t look now, but Bryce Young and the Panthers moved to 3-3 on the season.
  • JSN = WIN: One of only four wide receivers scoring more than 20 points per game this season, Jaxon Smith-Njigba scored a season-high 30.2 points. He is the overall WR2 behind only Puka Nacua and is nearly single-handedly dragging Sam Darnold to a top-12 QB start to the season.

Fantasy Arrow Down

  • Sleepwalking in Seattle: While Darnold and Smith-Njigba are enjoying fantasy success, the same cannot be said for the Seattle running backs. Both Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet have failed to live up to expectations this season. Whether it’s due to limited volume, game script, or poor blocking, the sad reality for their managers is neither player is currently startable in fantasy lineups.
  • Strawberry Fields, Forever: If Justin Fields took a snap at this very moment, then by the time it takes you to read the rest of this article, he’d likely still be holding onto the football. Sunday’s game in London was brutal to the point where Fields’ play was even angering the Ned Flanders-like Kurt Warner. Please just throw the ball, Justin. Okily dokily?

Notable Week 6 Injuries

The NFL’s elite wide receivers continue to drop like leaves in the fall. Puka Nacua injured his ankle, and although he returned in the second half, he is questionable to play in Week 7. Breakout rookie superstar Emeka Egbuka and veteran Calvin Ridley both have injured hamstrings, while Garrett Wilson looks to be out for a few weeks due to a hyperextended knee. Marvin Harrison Jr. suffered a concussion.

The San Francisco 49ers deserve their own paragraph in this section. Jauan Jennings told reporters, “You’ve got high, low ankle sprains, you’ve got shoulders 20 percent, you’ve got ribs, five broken ribs. It is what it is. You keep playing. Nobody cares, you keep playing. That’s what we do.”

Let’s keep that energy up as fantasy managers while we go scrambling for replacements in our lineup for these key starters, and let’s hope that we start getting a few of them (Lamar JacksonGeorge KittleCeeDee Lamb, anyone?) back sooner than later.

Highlights

  • Simply the Best: Garret Price sits alone atop the standings at 10-2, but he just lost Garrett Wilson for a few weeks. With a top-heavy but thin squad, can he remain in the pole position? One thing is for sure: Garret’s flag-plant rookie pick on Cam Skattebo has paid off.
  • Playoff Race Note: There’s still a lot of real and fantasy football to be played, but we have five teams tied or within a game of the fifth and sixth playoff seeds. Does Jon Glosser’s team have a chance despite his roster’s weak showing in the Dynasty Nerds App? What about John Hammersmith?

Matchup of the Week | Jon Glosser vs Mychal Warno

  • Top Performers: While Buffalo fans plead for Josh Allen to get his mind off his honeymoon and back onto the football field, there is a new alpha male in the AFC East this season. His name is Drake Maye, and he has his Patriots in first place. Jon got 33.49 fantasy points out of Maye, but Josh gets Hailee Steinfeld. I wouldn’t feel too bad for the guy.
  • Bench Blunder: So close, and yet so far. Mychal Warno started Geno Smith over Joe Flacco. One of these men once missed several weeks after getting punched in the face by a teammate, while the other is known far and wide for his elite level of play. Bad move, Mychal!
  • Commentary: It’s always notable whenever a matchup comes down to less than a point. We’ve all been there, and the emotions of it are frustrating. One extra yard. One silly drop. A questionable holding call nullifying a touchdown we needed. Trust me, whether you’re just starting out as a fantasy rookie or you’ve been playing long enough to have your own dynasty podcast, it never gets any better. In this case for Mychal, what could have been had Puka Nacua not gotten hurt? Jon’s team is succeeding on the backs of his quarterbacks (Patrick MahomesDrake Maye, and Daniel Jones), but how long can he survive by starting players like Jaydon Blue?

Weekly Awards | Nerds App League Honors

  • MVP of the Week: It never hurts to give props to the man who signs our checks. Rich Dotson’s team had both the best WR (George Pickens) and best TE (Dallas Goedert) for the week while earning the title of biggest blowout in a 187.08–80.67 drubbing of Taylor Christianson.
  • Overachiever: Jared Wackerly’s team overachieved its projection by nearly 70 points on his way to a stomping of Doc Mitchell, who again lost to one of the highest-scoring teams of the week. Frustrating, but that’s why we earn victories for beating the league median. Lesson to be learned here for any future league commissioners reading this article!
  • Underachiever: Look. On one hand, kudos to Nick Piovano for setting a perfect lineup! On the other? His perfect lineup scored 92.08 points. Yikes!

Manager Spotlight | Interview with John Hammersmith | @DynastyHammer

Q1: Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from? What team do you root for? How long have you played Dynasty, and how long have you been with Dynasty Nerds?

I’m a Chicago Bears fan at heart, but football as a whole is my passion. I love every aspect of the game. I’ve been playing dynasty fantasy football since 2020, and after being a Nerd Herd member for years, I officially joined Dynasty Nerds as a writer in April 2025.

Q2: Any particular player you were high on going into the season?

D’Andre Swift. His role seemed secure enough, and I thought a top 18 finish was a good probability. The Bears tried to get his complement/replacement in the draft, failed, then did nothing post-draft. Did Ben Johnson not like Swift, or was it Campbell? Or just the opportunity to get a superior Gibbs? Either way, Swift’s role and production felt secure with upside for 2025.

Q3: You were a last-minute fill-in and didn’t draft this roster. What were your feelings on the roster when you came aboard? What are some moves you’ve made to make the roster your own?

I inherited the team as a last-minute fill-in, and while I was excited by the challenge, I made it my own with trades. I traded away Amon-Ra St. BrownTravis Etienne, and James Cook for Jaxson DartJameson WilliamsRJ HarveyBen Sinnott, and a draft pick. Though that trade hasn’t fully paid off yet, Dart’s upside in Superflex keeps me optimistic. Also, I moved Kenneth Walker for Matthew Golden and a valuable rookie pick. I am feeling positive as Golden’s chemistry with Jordan Love is growing.

Q4: Who do you think will win the 1st season of the Nerds App League?

Rich. I’m straight pandering!

Q5: Is there anything else you would like to say to the Nerd Herd as they follow along the rest of the season?

To the Nerd Herd: buckle up! Like I always say, trust the process, embrace the chaos, and keep making moves, because we’re all in this for the love of the game, and the rest of the season is going to be a blast.

Week 6 Trades and Takeaways

  • Taylor at it Again: A curious trade this week as 2-10 Taylor Christianson traded a 2026 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to 3-9 Matt Cooper for Matthew StaffordKeenan Allen, and Davante Adams. Remember, the bottom three managers in the Dynasty Nerds App League are up for elimination at the end of the season. Is this Taylor’s way of staying out of that pack?
  • And Again: Then, a few days later, Taylor traded away Keenan Allen and Derrick Henry to Doc Mitchell for a 2027 1st. This trade brought out the memes as several other managers in the chat questioned the value of such a move.

Editor’s note: I might be a crazy trading fool. Or maybe, just maybe, I knew I needed some mid-tier trade pieces to get maximum value for guys like Henry and (spoiler!) A.J. Brown. Turned a 26 1st into a 27 so far…

Elimination Watch | Bottom 3 in the Danger Zone

The Danger Zone

  • Taylor Christianson (2–10): Can he make enough moves to stave off elimination?
  • Matt Cooper (3–9): Seems to be trading off assets. Risky move?
  • Keith Ensminger (3–9): A high ranking in the Dynasty Nerds App hasn’t translated to fantasy wins—yet.

Looking Ahead | Week 7 Preview

  • Game of the Week Prediction: Although he is heavily favored, Rich Dotson plays Jared Wackerly this week in a game sure to bring out the trash talk. Jared’s team is hot. Can Rico make it three weeks in a row?
  • Rivalry Watch: At 9-3, Peter Monahan plays Mychal Warno this week. Poor Mychal’s wounds haven’t healed yet, and his Week 7 matchup with Peter is projected to come down to less than a point. Will history repeat itself?
  • Upset Alert: Sorry, Jon. We face off against each other, and I’m going to talk about me and my team. Hi, I’m Keith, writer of the article and commissioner of the DNA League. You know, it sure would be nice if my team would live up to its ranking. I’m the only team to have beaten Garret’s monster roster this season, and I’d love it if I could carry over some of that momentum and scoring to other weeks. Please?

Editor’s note: Keith could rank even higher if he traded for Davante Adams or A.J. Brown.
