In SuperFlex leagues, the quarterback position isn’t just valuable—it’s foundational. With two starting quarterback slots in play, the demand for stability and upside at the position skyrockets, often dictating the long-term success of a roster. In this Week 3 Waiver Wire (Superflex PPR) article, we explore options, whether it’s a backup getting their opportunity due to an injury or a high-upside talent with a path to playing time. These are the difference makers that can reshape a roster and tilt the balance of championships. In SuperFlex formats, where quarterback scarcity magnifies every decision, finding the next breakout passer is a necessity.
All rostership percentages will be based on 12-Team SF PPR dynasty leagues. Please note: At the time of this publication, all free agents were at or under 50% rostered in Sleeper dynasty leagues.
Waiver Players to Add | Week 3 (Backup QB Targets After Injuries)
Player | Team | Pos | Rostership | FAAB | Why Add (Quick) | Note |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Jake Browning | Cincinnati Bengals | QB | 16% | 60–75% | Burrow injury monitor; led GW drive; 3 total TDs; had multiple QB1 weeks in 2023 | Backup QB with proven relief production |
Mac Jones | San Francisco 49ers | QB | 46% | 15–20% | Purdy uncertainty; 279-3-0 in Week 2; QB-friendly schedule ahead | Potential Week 3 starter |
Carson Wentz | Minnesota Vikings | QB | 11% | 15-20% | J.J. McCarthy possibly our for weeks with ankle sprain; fits well in KOC’s system | Potential Week 3 starter |
Chris Brooks | Green Bay Packers | RB | 13% | 1–2% | Interim backup behind Josh Jacobs until MarShawn Lloyd returns; passing-down utility | Out-snapped Wilson 53–11 |
Jeremy McNichols | Washington Commanders | RB | 9% | 2–3% | Ekeler out for season; contingent value behind JaCorey Croskey-Merritt | Depth add with role path |
Dyami Brown | Jacksonville Jaguars | WR | 49% | 5% | 5-57-1 in Week 2; 50+ yards in both games; near-term usage | Volume trending up |
Olamide Zaccheaus | Chicago Bears | WR | 30% | 1% | 5+ targets in back-to-back games; deeper-league FLEX while role holds | Short-term utility |
Noah Fant | Cincinnati Bengals | TE | 50% | 10% | Splitting snaps with Gesicki; targets edge 9–7; first-round talent | Streaming TE with upside |
Jake Tonges | San Francisco 49ers | TE | 43% | 3% | Kittle on IR; first NFL catch; out-targeted and out-gained Farrell | Role growth watch |
Quarterback Targets | Week 3 Waiver Wire (Superflex PPR)
Jake Browning | Cincinnati Bengals | 16% Rostership | 60–75% FAAB | Joe Burrow Injury Monitor
I am a strong advocate of having your quarterback handcuffed to the backup quarterback to avoid situations like this. The status of Joe Burrow will be a situation to monitor with Jake Browning. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Burrow could miss up to three months if surgery is required. Browning led the Bengals on a game-winning drive, finishing the day with three total touchdowns. Let’s not forget, Browning had five QB1 finishes when he was called into action in 2023 while Burrow was injured.
Mac Jones | San Francisco 49ers | 46% Rostership | 15–20% FAAB | Potential Week 3 Starter
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers are “not optimistic” that Brock Purdy will be available for Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals. If you are the Purdy manager, you may not have a QB3 to replace him, so I would overpay on my FAAB to ensure that I obtain Mac Jones. Jones completed 26 of 39 passes for 279 yards, with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions, to help the 49ers beat the Saints 26-21 in Week 2. The 49ers have a quarterback-friendly schedule, including upcoming matchups against the Cardinals and the Jaguars.
Carson Wentz | Minnesota Vikings | 11% Rostership | 15-20% FAAB | Week 3 Starter
With Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy unlikely to play for several weeks due to a high-ankle sprain, Carson Wentz is now in line to start this Sunday. The former MVP will anchor a fantasy-friendly offense under Kevin O’Connell and an All-Pro receiving option in Justin Jefferson at his disposal.
Running Backs to Stash as Potential Starters
Chris Brooks | Green Bay Packers | 13% Rostership | 1–2% FAAB
Chris Brooks appears to be the backup to roster behind Josh Jacobs until the return of MarShawn Lloyd. So far this season, Brooks has played 53 snaps for the Packers compared to Emanuel Wilson’s 11. While neither is overly effective as a rusher, Brooks does offer more in the passing game as a receiver and is trusted as a blocker.
Jeremy McNichols | Washington Commanders | 9% Rostership | 2–3% FAAB
Austin Ekeler suffered a torn Achilles on Thursday Night Football and will now miss the rest of the season. The biggest beneficiary of the Ekeler news is JaCorey Croskey-Merritt, who will now move to a larger role but Jeremy McNichols does become an interesting option on the waiver wire.
Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Players to Target
Dyami Brown | Jacksonville Jaguars | 49% Rostership | 5% FAAB
In Week 2, Dyami Brown finished with five receptions, 57 receiving yards, and a touchdown. His Week 2 could have been even better if he had not dropped a second touchdown reception. Nevertheless, Brown needs to be added as he has topped 50 receiving yards in both games this season.
Olamide Zaccheaus | Chicago Bears | 30% Rostership | 1% FAAB
Olamide Zaccheaus has had back-to-back games where he has seen at least five targets. Eventually, Zaccheaus will be usurped by Luther Burden, but until that day comes, Zaccheaus has some fantasy appeal in deeper leagues.
Tight Ends to Help You Compete
Noah Fant | Cincinnati Bengals | 50% Rostership | 10% FAAB
This is two weeks in a row where Noah Fant has split the snaps with Mike Gesicki. Fant has also out-targeted Gesicki in those contests, 9-7. Fant has never been able to reach the potential of his first-round pedigree, but he may have found his home in Cincinnati.
Jake Tonges | San Francisco 49ers | 43% Rostership | 3% FAAB
Jake Tonges was mentioned last week as a waiver wire addition, but still has not broken the 50% threshold, so he remains on the list this week. Tonges caught his first NFL pass this past week, when he stepped in for George Kittle, who has now been placed on Injured Reserve. While Tonges was not the 49ers tight end to score a touchdown in Week 2, thanks a lot, Luke Farrell, he did out-target Farrell 5-3 while also outproducing him in receiving yards.
Honorable Mentions | Deeper League Adds
Antonio Gibson (35% Rostership) was second on the team in rushing attempts while also scoring a special teams touchdown. Parker Washington (26% Rostership) had five receptions for 76 receiving yards. Tyrod Taylor (13% Rostership) relieved Justin Fields, who left the game after being evaluated for a concussion. Hunter Renfrow (33% Rostership) was previously mentioned in this series finished second on the Panthers in targets while also scoring two touchdowns. Tyquan Thornton (39% Rostership) caught 2-of-5 targets for 59 yards and a touchdown. Marcus Mariota (12% Rostership) with the uncertainty surrounding Jayden Daniels’ status.
Player | Pos | Rostership | Quick Note |
---|---|---|---|
Antonio Gibson | RB | 35% | 2nd in team rush attempts; special teams TD |
Parker Washington | WR | 26% | 5 receptions, 76 yards (Week 2) |
Tyrod Taylor | QB | 13% | Relieved Fields (concussion eval) |
Hunter Renfrow | WR | 33% | 2nd on Panthers in targets; 2 TD |
Tyquan Thornton | WR | 39% | 2/5 for 59 yards and TD |
Over 50% Rostered | Still Worth Checking
Other players who are great waiver wire additions but have over 50% rostership include: Troy Franklin, Dillon Gabriel, Juwan Johnson, Michael Mayer, Kendre Miller, Kyle Monangai, Wan’Dale Robinson, Chris Rodriguez, Tre Tucker, Malik Washington, and Dontayvion Wicks.

Week 3 Waiver Wire FAQ | Backup QBs with FAAB
Which backup QBs should I prioritize in Dynasty SuperFlex this week?
Target backups with a clear Week 3 start or a strong contingency behind an injured starter. In Superflex, even short-term starters can be worth aggressive bids.
How much FAAB should I spend on a temporary starting QB?
If you need a starter now, lean high within the posted range. If it’s a stash, stay mid- to low-range and adjust after practice reports.
Does FAAB strategy change in 1QB vs SuperFlex?
Yes. 1QB has streamers, so bid conservatively. Superflex inflates QB prices; expect stronger bids and fewer alternatives.
How does rostership % affect my bids?
Lower rostership may mean less competition; surging rostership or heavy buzz usually demands stronger bids to win.
What’s my tiebreaker between similar QB options?
Favor likely Week 3 starters, better offensive environment, the next two matchups, and any rushing floor.
When should I move on from a speculative add?
If the starter returns to full practice or the depth chart closes, churn quickly—bench spots are valuable in Dynasty.
How do I balance bidding now vs saving FAAB for later?
Spend when the upgrade meaningfully impacts weekly starts (especially at QB in Superflex), but keep a reserve for late-season injuries and playoffs.
