Watch: UNLV's poor clock management results in improbable TD

Sometimes in sports, it looks like a team is on its way to making an incredible mistake, only to have things work out perfectly in a completely unexpected way.

That is what happened for the UNLV football team at the end of the first half against Kansas on Friday night.

With UNLV trailing, 17-6, and time ticking away in the first half, the Rebels had advanced down to the Kansas 27-yard line with a running clock, less than 10 seconds to play in the half, and two timeouts remaining.

It was a perfect opportunity to call a timeout and potentially set up a last-second field goal attempt, or perhaps take one shot at the end zone before kicking a field goal on the next play.

UNLV did none of that, called no timeout and instead just snapped the ball to run a play as the half ticked away.

The result?

A 27-yard touchdown pass to Jai’Den Thomas.
