With the right-handed Christian Scott set to make his home debut today, the Braves have Jarred Kelenic back in the lineup, as Travis d’Arnaud moves up to the six-hole:
The bottom of the lineup remains pretty fluid for the Braves: while the first, third, fourth, and fifth spots in the lineup haven’t changed all season, the Braves have used four different players in the six-hole, six different players hitting seventh, and seven different players hitting each eighth and ninth. d’Arnaud and Orlando Arcia have appeared at each of those four spots already this season, while both Michael Harris II and Jarred Kelenic have appeared in three of the four. That said, the Braves are winless using this exact lineup so far on the year (the first two losses of the Dodgers series), so hopefully that changes today. This will the 14th time the Braves use this starting nine in 36 games, which may or may not surprise you.
The Mets, meanwhile, are using the exact same batting order as they did in yesterday’s game, which is a little weird since the Braves started right-hander Charlie Morton yesterday, but are using lefty Max Fried today.
This is actually their most common lineup of the season (even before today), but they’re 0-3 with it so far. It was also the lineup they used in Christian Scott’s MLB debut, where they lost 3-1 to the Rays despite Scott pitching incredibly well. Here’s the history of this nonet against Fried:
As mentioned in the preview, Fried’s generally fared well against the Mets in recent history, so these low wOBA and xwOBA aren’t surprising.
