[…] the Rays are obligated to come up with a community benefits agreement that provides substantial funds for things like affordable housing and parks. If the city does not contribute to the stadium construction, the benefits agreement could be shifted to county-only projects.
Also, the Rays spend millions of dollars every year to hire off-duty law enforcement and firefighters for home games. Those lucrative side gigs could all end up going toward Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies instead of Tampa Police officers, which would not go over well with union members.
