The Tampa Bay Rays have a made a major addition to their roster by acquiring catcher Liam Hicks from the Miami Marlins in exchange for three prospects.
Hicks is currently hitting .282/.363/.432 with 14 HR this season, registering a 119 wRC+ (140 vs RHP, 47 vs LHP) and has accrued 1.6 fWAR over 409 PA. He will be expected to enter into a fairly strict platoon with Nick Fortes moving forward.
A Rule 5 selection from the Tigers following the 2024 season, Hicks has appeared at catcher in 100 games (81 starts) and at first base (54 games, 42 starts) across two seasons in Miami, and dramatically cut his strikeouts at the plate this year.
