Tampa Bay Rays: 3, Chicago Cubs: 4 - Short Lived Lead Leads to Loss

Here is how the Rays and Cubs lineup for tonight

Civale and the Rays got into trouble out the gate in the 1st inning, but were able to escape unscathed.

Rays got on the board first in the 3rd inning with an opposite field double(!)

The lead was short lived as Seyia Suzuki clobbered a solo HR to even the score at 1

Jose Siri got the lead back in the bottom of the 4th inning with a solo shot of his own.

Aaron Civale had himself a solid night, going 5.2 IP with 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 Ks on 85 pitches. A much better outing than what we are used to.

In the bottom of the 7th, Kevin Kelly got the first two outs, and then after a single to Christopher Morel, Cash went to Garrett Cleavinger. The Cubs responded with a move of their own, going to Patrick Wisdom, who reached on a HBP by Cleavinger, and brought Cody Bellinger up. Cleavinger got ahead of Bellinger 1-2, but a cutter caught too much of the plate, and Bellinger didn’t miss it.

Cubs lead 4-2.

Rays had a few chances, including a Jose Caballero HR in the bottom of the 9th to cut the lead to 1.

Both Johnny DeLuca (as a Pinch Runner for Ben Rortvedt) and Taylor Walls got to 2nd and 3rd base with two outs, and last nights hero, Brandon Lowe at the plate.

Unfortunately, the magic wasn’t there for a second night in a row, as the Rays lose 4-3 and drop to 32-36 on the season.

Rays will look to avoid their second straight series loss tomorrow, with Taj Bradley taking the mound for the Rays against Justin Steele. Gametime is at 6:50 PM.
