The Braves and catcher Sean Murphy were finally on the good side of injury luck on Wednesday in Boston as the swelling in the all star catcher’s elbow has calmed down significantly, according to Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Great sign: The swelling in Sean Murphy’s elbow has mostly subsided. It’s hardly noticeable now.

Murphy, who missed the first two months of the season with an oblique strain on opening day, was hit by a pitch in the elbow on Tuesday night. His elbow immediately swelled up in a concerning way and he left the game, although he was in good spirits afterwards and was confident it would not be a long-term issue. Thankfully, it appears Murphy was correct in his self-diagnosis.
Travis d’Arnaud is in Wednesday’s lineup in place of Murphy. It seems possible the Braves opt to give Murphy a couple of days off, although a return to the lineup as early as Thursday could be in the cards. Atlanta will finish up the short series with Boston on Wednesday afternoon before heading to Washington to face the Nationals for four.
