The second Griffin Jax got drilled in the back, tonight’s contest between Baltimore and Tampa Bay felt like a wash.
Jax delivered a pitch in the second inning and a 107 MPH comebacker square to the middle of his lower back had him exit after he completed the frame.
He was later ruled day to day with a lower back contusion.
Three errors and six unearned runs later, and the Rays would go on to lost their third in a row, and the first series defeat since April 20-22 at home against the Reds.
The main concern is the sloppy defense, with Tampa Bay piling on the errors, seven in their past two games.
The two lone bright spots of the evening were Jonathan Aranda adding to his AL-best 41st RBI, and newcomer Craig Kimbrel making his Rays debut in the 8th, and looking quite impressive.
Getaway day is at 6:35 ET from Oriole Park at Camden Yards, with Steven Matz as the probable starter for the Rays and Baltimore’s to be determined.
