The Braves announced a couple of roster moves on Tuesday, most notably that right handed starter Reynaldo Lopez will make a rehab assignment tonight with the Gwinnett Stripers.
The club also announced right handed reliever Jimmy Herget has been recalled from Gwinnett. Lefty Zach Logue was optioned to the minors to make room for Herget. With the bullpen being incredibly thin these days given the heavy usage over the last week, Herget will serve in a break-in-case-of-emergency long role for the next couple days.
The #Braves today recalled RHP Jimmy Herget to Atlanta after optioning LHP Zach Logue to Triple-A Gwinnett following last night’s game. Additionally, RHP Reynaldo López tonight begins a rehabilitation assignment tonight with the Stripers.

The notable news, of course, is that Lopez will return to the mound for the first time since July 28. The Braves received great news a couple of weeks ago when an MRI showed no structural damage to Reynaldo’s elbow, but he was ultimately shut down and placed on the Injured List to let the discomfort in his elbow subside. Assuming all goes well tonight with Gwinnett, the belief is that the All-Star righty will return to the big league club when he’s eligible to come off the IL this weekend.
