Rays Reacts Results: Opening Week Edition

Rays Reacts Results: Opening Week Edition

It’s a week of home openers, as the Rays extended road trip to allow more time for the Trop to be prepared to welcome fans again sees them head to Minnesota next for their home opener, before flying back to St. Pete to host the Cubs on Monday.

With the Rays sitting at 2-4 on the nascent season, how are the vibes? We split that question into Position players and the Pitchers.

Question 1 – Position players

This shouldn’t be too surprising! With the exception of some Cedric Mullins at bats and Caminero fielding errors, it has been the Rays position players carrying this team through the first week. Chandler Simpson even leads left fielders in bWAR! How fun!

Question 2 – the back bone of any Rays season, the pitching…

Yeah the bullpen has been rough! But it’s not all doom and gloom, as 1 in 5 respondents thought the pitching has exceeded expectations, and that makes good sense if you were thinking of the return of McClanahan, or the regular season Martinez performance that thankfully looked nothing like Spring Training.

On the whole, I’m willing to say this is a “better than expected” reaction to the Rays first week, even if it came with only two wins thus far.
