At the start of the homestand — which has pleasantly gone very well for the Rays — Carson Williams received a surprise demotion after Taylor Walls was ready to return from the injured list.

To my personal mild surprise, there was enormous trust that the Rays would get this decision right. Walls has not had the best track record with the bat, despite being a switch hitter, but his glove is elite and it’s hard to fault going with what could be the best glove in the game at the sport’s hardest position.
Now can Walls hold down a season long enough to get his flowers? That is another question entirely.
