Rays 6, A’s 5: A long wait for a walk-off

Extra innings games can be a slog, because you’re either waiting ages for a win, or you’re waiting ages to be seriously disappointed. At least in this scenario it was a happy ending for the Rays.

Let’s take a quick gander at what happened to bring the Rays to a very long-awaited victory.

Since it WAS a 12 inning game, we’re just going to look at the key scoring plays.

The Rays got on the board first, as Randy Arozarena got on base and then Isaac Paredes homered to get two runs in.

Heading into the bottom of the second and it was a Jose Siri home run that put the Rays up 3-0.

Top of the third, Brett Rooker doubled with Abraham Toro on base, scoring Toro, but Rooker also advanced to third on a fielding error from Jose Siri. Miguel Andujar then singled to score Rooker, bringing the A’s within one run. Then Shea Langeliers homered to bring in two more runs.

It looked like the A’s might get the win right down until the bottom of the ninth when Jose Siri homered to die the game.

In the tenth, the A’s pulled ahead again with Abraham Toro singling to score Max Schuemann. But then in the bottom of the tenth Randy Arozarena hit a sac fly to score Richie Palacios, tying the game 5-5.

The game stayed tied until the 12th, when in the bottom of the inning Palacios was once again the man to get things done with a walk-off single to score Jose Caballero.

Final: Rays 6, A’s 5
