Apologies for the delayed recap, DRB friends, but better late than never.
On Friday the Rays eked out a win in the series opener against the San Francisco Giants. The Rays relied heavily on their bullpen, with Jacob Waguespack taking the first four innings against Keaton Winn for the Giants (who is ironically hunting for his first win of the season still).
The Rays got on the board early thanks to a bases-loaded walk from Yandy Diaz to score Harold Ramirez. Not exactly how you want to bring runs in, but hey, a run is a run.
In the top of the third, a wild pitch from Waguespack allowed Jung Hoo Lee to score, tying up the game 1-1.
The bottom of the third saw a double (that initially looked like a triple, but was ruled a double an error on Chapman) to score Harold Ramirez.
Neither team scored again for the rest of the game, but the Rays’ pen was busy as they went through Cleavinger, Maton, Poche, Adam, and Fairbanks to hang onto that lead.
It wasn’t a particularly thrilling game, but the Rays did manage to keep their slight lead, and earn a much-needed win as they continue to climb their way up the standings after a shaky start to the season.
