Packers fighting with multiple rivals for Brandin Cooks

The Green Bay Packers remain one of several teams in on Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who has six 1,000-yard seasons under his belt.

Brandin Cooks knows his days in Houston are numbered, and for good reason — the Texans need all the NFL Draft capital they can get to aid their rebuild.

Cooks would fit well with the Packers, as I discussed earlier this week. Green Bay has plenty of young wide receivers — adding another doesn’t necessarily make a ton of sense. Cooks, 29, has plenty of experience on winning teams, including the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots. Surely he could handle whatever Aaron Rodgers demands.

Rodgers hasn’t hid his displeasure with the Packers receiving corps and offense as a whole.

Aaron Rodgers voices concerns with Packers players

“If one of those guys has a problem with it, I’m right here, and I’d love to have a conversation,” Rodgers said. “I enjoy those conversations. I enjoy any type of conflict like that, because I know the resolution on the other side is going to make us a better unit, a better friendship, a better cohesion on the field. But nobody’s come to me and said, ‘I’ve got a problem with what you said.’”

So, here’s the thing — no one is going to come forward and question Rodgers authority in the locker room, especially the young wide receiving corps. Doing so would all but ensure less targets, and perhaps their spot on the roster altogether.

Cooks, though, has the pedigree to at least bring issues to Rodgers’ attention. Per Jordan Schultz of The Score, Green Bay is a dark horse contender for the 29-year-old, with NFC contenders in the Rams, Vikings and Giants all breathing down their neck.

Acquiring Cooks will be no easy task, especially as the market heats up.
