Once Curt Cignetti was hired, things began to turn around for Cooper Jr. During his junior year, he averaged an impressive 21.2 yards per reception and finished second on the team in both receiving yards and touchdowns, emerging as one of the offense’s top playmakers.
During Cooper Jr.’s senior year at Indiana, he broke out with a massive season, totaling 937 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns. He led the team in both receptions and receiving yards. He also narrowed the gap between himself and fellow rookie prospect Elijah Sarratt during Indiana’s magical season, proving he could be just as impactful in high-leverage moments. Rookie Profile | Strengths and Weaknesses
Omar Cooper Jr. is an electric type of receiver. He can easily generate yards after the catch due to his solid speed. He is a complete route runner with good tempo and pacing, and he’s a master at using deception against defenders.
He should be able to create separation at the next level and uses a quick release off the line to gain that space early in routes. He has some twitchiness to his game, which ranked him in the top 10 in forced missed tackles. He is also a natural ball tracker, able to locate and adjust to the football smoothly downfield.
While Cooper Jr. is someone who is exciting to watch on film, there are some things that should be considered negatives in his game.
He doesn’t win vertically that often, even with his speed. His catch radius is short, which can limit him if he isn’t creating separation on plays. His route tree also needs to be refined and expanded a bit at the next level. His blocking is below average, which does beg the question of whether he will be strictly a slot receiver. If that doesn’t improve, it could limit his field usage in certain situations.
His upside could be trailing right after Ladd McConkey at the next level if everything hits for him in the right system. His floor is more along the lines of Jayden Reed, a productive receiver who can win underneath and be used in different spots on the field.

The Browns could use his speed underneath on offense and someone to give a spark to the unit, which Cooper Jr. could easily do.
