Nine months ago, the Denver Broncos acquired quarterback Russell Wilson in a massive trade that included the Broncos sending two first-round picks and two second-round picks to the Seattle Seahawks. The hope was that Wilson would deliver Denver its fourth Super Bowl title.
After a 34-28 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Broncos fall to 3-10 and are officially eliminated from playoff contention. Meanwhile, the Chiefs improve to 10-3 and can clinch the AFC West tonight if the Los Angeles Chargers fall to the Miami Dolphins.
Offensive spotlight: Until this week, Jerry Jeudy had six receiving touchdowns in his career. The third-year receiver from Alabama scored half of that just against the Chiefs on Sunday.
Jeudy caught all eight of his targets for 73 yards and three touchdowns, good for a 144.3 passer rating when targeted.
Defensive spotlight: Willie Gay Jr. had one of his best games yet. The Chiefs linebacker earned an 82.9 PFF grade on first review, which would be the fifth-best single game mark of his three-year career. In the second quarter, Gay intercepted Russell Wilson and returned it 47 yards for a pick-six. He also had an additional three coverage stops in the game.
Rookie spotlight: Isiah Pacheco continues to establish himself as the Chiefs’ top running back. The seventh-rounder from Rutgers ran for 70 yards on 13 carries, forcing four missed tackles along the way. The rookie added three catches for 23 yards, as well.
Offensive line spotlight: The Chiefs did a good job of keeping Patrick Mahomes’ uniform clean. Kansas City only allowed one knockdown across 40 pass-blocking snaps. Left guard Joe Thuney was particularly impressive, with no pressures allowed on 40 pass-blocking snaps.
