New York Giants re-sign LB Benton Whitley

Lost in a flurry of transactions as free agency got underway, the New York Giants have re-signed linebacker Benton Whitley.

Whitley joined the Giants last November when he was signed off of the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad. He appeared in three games for Big Blue, recording one pass defensed and one fumble recovery.

The 25-year-old Whitley originally signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Holy Cross in 2022. He also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs before joining the aforementioned Vikings.

Whitley (6-foot-4, 250 pounds) had played in just one NFL game before joining the Giants — that also came in 2023 with the Vikings.

Pro Football Focus gave Whitley an overall grade of 30.0 last season, including a 55.7 run defense grade and a 51.4 pass rush grade.

Whitley’s new deal with the Giants is for one year and worth $985,000, according to Over The Cap.
