The New York Giants dropped their second preseason game, 28-10, to the Houston Texans in a matchup that was highlighted by poor early play from quarterback Daniel Jones.
Although Jones’ mixed results will be the primary topic, the first-team offensive line warrants attention and praise. They performed at a higher level than we’ve seen in roughly a decade and that should result in some welcomed optimism.
A large number of injuries may also overshadow the O-line, which is understandable given some of the key players who got dinged up.
In the end, the Giants will limp back to East Rutherford after their longest preseason road trip since the 1990s.
Here’s a look at how X, formerly known as Twitter, reacted to Jones’ performance and the Giants’ Week 2 preseason defeat.
The Giants allowed one pressure on 19 dropbacks with their starting offensive line (sans Jon Runyan Jr.) on the field in the first half. This is the biggest positive to take from this loss to the Texans.

Officially the worst preseason game we’ve covered in 6 years. Mark it down.

This has not been a great showing at all
Fundamentals just not being followed and it’s cost us on drives

I’m not in panic mode as of right now. The Giants will be fine! #Giants100

Giants 10 Texans 28 thoughts
•Obviously awful showing for Daniel Jones in his first action back. 2 bad Interceptions & should’ve been a 3rd on first play of the game. Even big play to Slayton wasn’t a great ball
•Malik Nabers 59 yards on 5 touches with a crazy grab, he’s good…— Bobby Skinner (@BobbySkinner_) August 17, 2024
So a disastrous first quarter for Daniel Jones and the Giants offense. He played significantly better in the second quarter. Led two scoring drives (mostly vs. backups).
And you can see what Malik Nabers can do. He had four catches on six targets for 54 yards.

Two positive takeaways from the #Giants first half vs. the #Texans
1). Malik Nabers is legit (we knew this)
2). The protection/blocking were impressive.Daniel Jones struggled and made a catastrophic mistake on the pick-six. Accuracy was inconsistent through the half.

Darius Slayton is on a three game streak of explosive plays for the #Giants
70+ yard TD bombs from Tyrod Weeks 17&18 and now the 40+ from Jones preseason.
About time someone puts respect on his name. So I’ll do it. Wildly underrated. Gets open all the time. Check separation rate pic.twitter.com/goV4sA8KDP— Dan Schneier (@DanSchneierNFL) August 17, 2024
Daniel Jones’ agent getting him a $160 million contract off the back of Saquan, 15 passing TDs and a very random Giants playoff appearance should be a Netflix doc

That wasn’t a great look for Jones today. But one year ago everyone thought the Giants were going to unveil the 2nd coming of the “Greatest Show on Turf” after 1 drive vs the Panthers. I have to even remind myself not to overreact to the preseason.
