New York Giants agree to terms with ex-Colts WR Isaiah McKenzie

The New York Giants remained busy on Tuesday afternoon, the second day of the “legal” tampering period, agreeing to terms with quarterback Drew Lock and defensive back Jalen Mills.

General manager Joe Schoen also reeled in a familiar face — wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie.

McKenzie’s agents made the reveal on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The 28-year-old McKenzie was a fifth-round pick of the Denver Broncos in the 2017 NFL draft. He was waived in November of 2018 and immediately claimed by the Buffalo Bills.

McKenzie spent the next four-plus seasons in Buffalo, including several under then-offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, who is now the Giants’ head coach. He spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts.

Daboll and McKenzie have a very close relationship.

“We’d eat barbecue and the sun’s out and we’re outside having fun, he’d have his shirt off — and that’s a sight to see,” McKenzie told Syracuse.com in 2022. “He’s like, ‘You eat whatever you want and you can come over whenever you want.’ I didn’t know him that well or that he was that cool of a coach, inviting us over and stuff. I was just getting to know him. But as time went on and I kept going over there and eating food and he would take me in like a son. . . He was my coach, but he treated me like a son and I appreciate him for that.”

McKenzie, who runs a 4.42 40-yard dash, has appeared in 93 career games (28 starts), hauling in 152 receptions for 1,427 yards and 11 touchdowns.

As a gadget player, McKenzie has also rushed for 244 yards and one touchdown, returned 81 punts for 722 yards and one touchdown, 56 kickoffs for 1,264 yards, and thrown for a touchdown.
