Saturday’s men’s basketball game between the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University was postponed after police reported an on-campus shooting at UNM that occurred early Saturday morning. UNM basketball issued a statement saying the teams had jointly made the decision to postpone “in light of the tragic incident earlier this morning on the University of New Mexico campus.”
New Mexico State Police said they are investigating an altercation between a 19-year-old male and a 21-year-old male, in which both were shot. The 19-year-old died on the scene, police said, and the 21-year-old was taken to the hospital for treatment. The 21-year-old’s condition was not known at the time of the police announcement.
The Lobos said that additional details about a potential rescheduled contest will come at a later time.
