MLB Picks Can Win Big

MLB, once coined “America’s Favorite Pastime”, has an 162-game regular season that spans 172 days from spring to autumn. Subsequently, the playoffs lead to the crowning of a World Series champion.

By the same token, years of scandals has significantly damaged the public appeal of MLB. However, the games do offer some betting action during the doldrums of summer.

The MLB season overlaps the NBA, NHL, and NFL seasons. Wagering on MLB picks up after the NBA finals are over and dies down as football season approaches. Up to the present time, the World Series is usually played in late October, early November. Many MLB playoff games are shown on ESPN Consequently, the viewership ratings pale in comparison to the NFL and College Football. Our MLB picks are updated daily.

Understanding MLB Picks Betting Line

There are three basic ways to bet on mlb: the runline, the moneyline, and the Total (also known as the Over/Under). Oddsmakers release a “runline”, “moneyline”, and “total” for nearly every baseball game.

The Runline

The runline is a lot like the puckline in hockey; its the number of runs oddsmakers think the favored team should win by. Under those circumstances, the bettor has the choice to choose the favorite and give up points or take the underdog and get points. Find out more about MLB Picks Here.

For example, in Game 6 of the 2022 World Series, the Houston Astros were favored to win by -1.5 runs (+155) over the Atlanta Braves. In this case, Atlanta won the game outright as the underdog, 7-0. That means betting Atlanta as an underdog at +1.5 runs (-188) was the winning bet. Regardless, the bettor would have had to wager $188 to win $100 in this MLB scenario

MLB Picks & The Moneyline

Nearly every MLB game will have a “moneyline”. The moneyline for a game represents how Vegas views how the game will end, which team will win and lose. However, moneyline bets offer higher risk with lower return on favorites, and lower risks with higher returns on underdogs.

Moneyline bets are surprisingly useful, especially for parlay bets, because you do not have to worry about how much a team wins by, only if they win or lose. Nonetheless, it will cost more to bet the moneyline on favorites straight up if you are trying to make $100, while betting on underdogs has the potential for a larger payoff.

For example, in Game 6 of the 2022 World Series, the Houston Astros played the Atlanta Braves. Houston was -125 to win the game outright, which means the bettor would have had to wager $125 to win $100. Basically, Atlanta was +105 to win, which means the bettor would win $105 on a $100 IF they won. Consequently, Atlanta won. Our Premium MLB picks will occasionally have moneyline selections.

The Total MLB (Over/Under)

Nearly every MLB game will have a “total”. The total, also known as the over/under, represents how many combined runs the oddsmakers think will be scored in a game. Provided that, the odds for total bets are normally -110, but have been known to fluctuate, depending on the situation.

For example, in Game 6 of the 2022 World Series, the Houston Astros played the Atlanta Braves, the total was 9 runs. To that end, the odds for the over/under were slightly different than usual, with the odds for Under 9 set at -118, and the odds for Over 9 set at +100.

The bettor had to decide whether they thought the score would be under or over 9 runs, hence the term “over/under”. Consequently, the game ended 7-0, for a total of 7 runs, which was under the total. The bettor would have had to wager $118 to win $100 in this scenario.

For instance, in Game 6 of the 2022 World Series, the Houston Astros played the Atlanta Braves, the total was 9 runs. Consequently, the odds for the over/under were slightly different than usual, with the odds for Under 9 set at -118, and the odds for Over 9 set at +100. Parlay Wagers

Parlay your MLB picks! The oxford dictionary defines “parlay” as “a cumulative series of bets in which winnings accruing from each transaction are used as a stake for a further bet.”

In other words, a parlay wager is betting and on 2 or more game outcomes on the same ticket. Each addition team added to the parlay makes the payout increase. To win a parlay bet, all the MLB picks must win.

Additionally, the odds are heavily against the bettor on parlay bets on two different fronts, the true odds and the odds paid. For example, the true odds of hitting a 10-team parlay are 1023-1, but the odds paid at most sportsbooks are 720-1.

With that in mind, many bettors use parlay bets to stack moneyline bets for games they feel most strongly about. Basically, if the bettor picks an underdog on the moneyline, the expected payout can increase dramatically, along with the bettor’s chance of losing the bet. Contact US

MLB Prop Bets

Many bookmakers offer proposition bets, or “prop bets” for short, which gives the bettor an opportunity to wager on specific aspects of the games other than the runline, moneyline and total. Consequently, each week there are prop bets available for MLB picks on games every day there is a game.

For instance, there are prop bets for how many hits a player might have, or how many strikeouts a pitcher might have. Furthermore, there are odds on events like how many total runs will be scored in the first five innings.

For the most part, prop bets are listed like Over/Under totals or yes/or questions, such as “Will Player X’s strikeout total be Over/Under 9.5”, or “Will Team Y have Over/Under 4 RBI’s?” Contact us!

Betting on the Future

One wagering option, known as Futures, allows the bettor to bet on a long-running result instead of betting on a MLB single-game outcome. Basically, there are several preseason futures bets available before the college football season begins, and there are some futures bets that run during the season, with the odds changing week by week.

Before the season begins, a bettor has the option to place future wagers on win/loss records, conference champs, the Heisman Trophy winner, even which team will win the national championship.

For example, in 2021 a $100 futures wager on UGA would have netted the bettor $1,200.

Futhermore, there are many factors to consider when deciding which teams to wager on, such as injuries, weather, trends, rivalry games, etc. In closing, there are many ways to wager, just make sure you have the right MLB picks for games you are betting on.
