Kevin Durant Says Phoenix Fans ‘Got What They Wanted’ After Trade

Durant

Kevin Durant is set to exit Phoenix and it couldn’t have been more public, or more blunt.

The two-time NBA champion was live on stage at Fanatics Fest in New York City on Sunday when he was told by moderator Taylor Rooks that he had just been traded to the Houston Rockets.

“You’re headed to Houston. How does that sound?” Rooks asked.

“We’re gonna see man, we’re gonna see,” Durant responded, smiling as the crowd erupted.

In a video that quickly made its rounds online, the 36-year-old forward appeared visibly caught off guard.

After a few seconds of confusion, Durant acknowledged the news to a roaring audience.

Speaking later to Kay Adams, Durant admitted he had a sense the move was coming.

“Crazy, crazy last couple weeks, but I’m glad it’s over with,” KD said. “I had an idea, but I didn’t know exactly when it was gonna happen. I’m glad we kind of did this onstage, it worked out.”

Durant also confirmed he gave the Suns a list of preferred destinations. Houston, who just made the playoffs for the first time in five years under Ime Udoka, was one of them.

“They’re coming off a great season,” Durant said. “I feel like I’m a good addition.”

As for his exit from Phoenix, Durant didn’t sugarcoat it.

When asked whether fans might be disappointed by his departure, the former MVP was direct.

“I just felt that, yeah, they wanted me to go. I’m glad we both – they got what they wanted, and I got what I wanted. So, we can move on and good luck to them going forward. I’ll always remember my time there, but we’re on to something else.”

The blockbuster deal sent Durant to Houston in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. ten overall pick in this week’s draft, and five second-round selections, according to ESPN.
