Journalist says this powerhouse program will be top challenger to Texas in SEC

Three familiar programs are expected to once again rule the SEC this upcoming college football season.

Texas is coming off a successful first season in the league, culminating in a second consecutive defeat in the semifinal round of the College Football Playoff.

Georgia and Alabama had uncharacteristic seasons, with the Bulldogs losing three games and the Crimson Tide dropping four, which were the most since 2007.

All three programs are going to be led by new QBs, including the much-anticipated debut of Arch Manning as Texas’ starting QB. Despite the change under center and a subpar season by its standards, sports journalist and radio personality Paul Finebaum believes Alabama will be the top challenger to Texas this season.

“I think it’s Alabama. A lot of people amazingly have forgotten about Alabama,” Finebaum said during an appearance on Wednesday’s edition of ESPN’s “Get Up.” “Without Nick Saban, they missed the playoffs, they lost more games than they have since 2007.”
