The Athletic

Longtime CBS sports broadcaster Jim Nantz will be calling his final men’s NCAA basketball tournament in 2023. The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand was first to report the story.

Ian Eagle will succeed Nantz as CBS and Turner Sports’ No. 1 play-by-play broadcaster for the NCAA Tournament, per the New York Post.

“It is time with two young children and an older daughter that I spend more time at home,” Nantz told the Post.

Nantz, 63, has been the lead play-by-play broadcaster for the NCAA Tournament since 1991. In 2023, Nantz will call his 32nd Final Four and National Championship game for CBS. In addition to college basketball, Nantz is the lead broadcaster on CBS’ golf coverage, which includes The Masters and the PGA Championship. He’s on CBS’ No. 1 broadcast team for the NFL, alongside color analyst Tony Romo and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.

Eagle, 53, has called NCAA Tournament games for CBS and TNT. He’s also provided play-by-play commentary for NBA games on TNT and the Brooklyn Nets on the YES Network.

The 2023 NCAA Tournament begins on March 14, with the National Championship game taking place in Houston on April 3.
