Jay Wright joining CBS Sports as studio analyst for NCAA Tournament

The Athletic

Former Villanova men’s basketball coach Jay Wright is returning to the NCAA Tournament in a new role.

Wright is joining CBS Sports as a studio analyst for the broadcasting giant’s March Madness coverage, the network announced Thursday. He will contribute to coverage across the four networks — CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV — that air all 67 games of the tournament.

The six-time Big East Coach of the Year will also work as a studio and game analyst for CBS Sports throughout the regular season, making appearances on both CBS and CBS Sports Network. Wright will make his broadcasting debut on CBS Sports Network on Dec. 7 when Villanova hosts Penn. Ten days later, he’ll appear on CBS as a studio analyst for CBS Sports’ tripleheader.

Wright retired from coaching in April after leading Villanova for 21 seasons and amassing a 520-197 record. Under Wright, the Wildcats reached the NCAA Tournament 16 times and won two national championships (2016 and 2018). Four of his teams reached the Final Four, including last season’s squad which fell to eventual national champion Kansas.

The 60-year-old Wright was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021.
