On the exact opposite end of the spectrum, the Giants defense largely played well on Thursday night. However, there were some concerning penalties, which we’ll address later on.

Shane Bowen’s unit limited the Lions to just 228 yards of total offense (110 yards through the air), 3.9 yards per carry, and 3.4 yards per play while recording five QB hits, 4.0 sacks, eight tackles for a loss, eight passes defensed, and one interception.

Big Blue held the Lions to 5-of-17 on third down, 0-of-4 on fourth down, and 0-of-3 in the red zone.

Bowen also showcased some Wink Martindale-like blitzes which came as a surprise to the Lions’ offense.

All in all, it was a good showing for the Giants’ defense, which was largely made up of reserves.
