The New York Giants introduced free agent running back Devin Singletary to the media on Thursday and suddenly the post-Saquon Barkley era began to come into focus.
Singletary, who will wear Barkley’s number (26), and didn’t hesitate when asked.
“I had 26 since I came into the league. That’s the number I’m sticking with,” he said.
Singletary isn’t awed by the shoes he’s being asked to fill. He intends on doing what he’s always done — be productive when called upon.
“Saquon is great. Everyone knows that,” he said. “I’m just happy to be a Giant. I’m looking forward to a great opportunity here, and I’m ready to get to work. That’s how I’m looking at it.”

Singletary is very familiar with the Giants’ offense. After all, he began his pro career in Buffalo where current Giants head coach Brian Daboll was the offensive coordinator his first three seasons.
“I am familiar with the offense. Like I said, I just wanted an opportunity to come somewhere to help the team win, you know what I’m saying? Like I said, I’m happy to be a Giant,” he said. “It doesn’t have anything to do with Dabs, I’ve been in the offense and all that. I’m just ready to get to work more than anything.”
