Matt Ponatoski is happy with what he’s seen from Mark Stoops and the Kentucky Wildcats, but feels there’s another level to be reached in Lexington.
The four-star quarterback from Cincinnati, Ohio, committed to Kentucky over the weekend, and he’s ready to do big things for the Wildcats.
“I think I can go in there and not turn the program around, they’ve been doing good things, but put it back on the map,” he told Steve Wiltfong of Rivals regarding his decision.
Ponatoski is one of the better quarterbacks and overall athletes in the nation. Rivals ranks him as the No. 9 quarterback in the country and No. 100 prospect overall. He’s also a strong baseball prospect, and the Wildcats recruited him to play both football and baseball in Lexington.
That was a major part of his decision to commit to Kentucky over the likes of Alabama, Oregon and Arkansas, amongst many others. He’s also eying a shot at playing in MLB, and Kentucky’s openness to his desire to be drafted was another reason he felt comfortable with the Wildcats.
“It’s definitely something I’m looking at,” Ponatoski said of the MLB draft. “Not because money is a huge thing, but if it’s the right money slot, the teams I’m talking to for football and baseball understand it’s definitely a possibility. I’ll have to keep communicating with them and make my decision when the time comes.”
