Andrej Stojakovic, the No. 17 overall player in the Class of 2023 according to 247Sports, announced his commitment to Stanford on Monday. Here’s what you need to know:
- Andrej is the son of Kings legend Peja Stojakovic, a three-time All-Star, two-time 3-point champion and NBA champion.
- Stojakovic chose the Cardinal over UCLA, Texas and Oregon among others.
- Stanford boasts the No. 22 overall class for 2023 with Stojakovic and four-star combo guard Kanaan Carlyle of Overtime Elite committed.
The Athletic’s analysis:
Why Stojakovic picked Stanford
UCLA emerged as the presumed favorite, but Stanford swooped in over the final few days and was able to land a commitment. Most importantly he plans on signing early in the new few days.
Stojakovic has an immediate connection to the program as his old Jesuit High School teammate and neighbor Isa Silva is currently on the roster. Also, with Stanford being a critically acclaimed academic institution, he could set himself up long-term with much success off the court. — Bass
Expectations as a freshman
I think he will come to Stanford and make an immediate impact as a scorer and facilitator. At 6-foot-6 and 185 pounds, he can do everything on the floor from an offensive standpoint. At the next level, you have to be able to shoot and Stojakovic can do just that. It would not surprise me if he led the Cardinal in scoring or was in running for the conference’s best freshman. — Bass
How the Cardinal shape up in coming years
The future for Stanford basketball is at an all-time high right now. Over the past three seasons, the program has signed eight players, three of which are in the top six in Stanford all-time recruits, per the 247Sports composite rankings. Five of the eight are ranked as four-star prospects or higher.
A year from the Cardinal roster could be comprised of:
That list could potentially include forward Harrison Ingram, their best player, returning as well. Watch out Pac-12. — Bass
