First Jackson State player officially enters transfer portal

Deion Sanders’ first Louis Vuitton bag might be on the way to Boulder.

Per On3, defensive lineman KaTron Evans has entered the transfer portal. He was one of several top prospects Sanders recruited to Jackson State. After his departure for Colorado, it was expected that players on the Tigers’ 13-0 SWAC championship team would follow suit.

Per data from On3’s transfer portal tracker, Evans is the first Jackson State player to transfer following Sanders’ decision.

Evans made no mention of a landing spot, and per On3, he’s from Baltimore, Maryland. Whether he has more of an interest in heading west or playing closer to home is unclear.

Per 247Sports, Evans was a four-star recruit out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. He ranked No. 200 in its composite rankings.

Evans fell out of rotation in 2022, playing in only one game. As a freshman in 2021, Evans played in seven games and recorded 14 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, via Jackson State’s website.

Sanders made waves in his introductory meeting with his new team. While speaking to current Buffaloes players, he drew a line in the sand as to his expectations for the team going forward. He told anyone not on board to enter the transfer portal, mentioning he has players lined up and ready to transfer to Colorado.

QB Shedeur Sanders will likely follow his dad after “Prime Time” mentioned in his introductory press conference he anticipates that being the case.
