The Atlanta Braves will look to stay hot Saturday when they continue a three-game series against the Miami Marlins. Atlanta is coming off of an 8-1 win Friday night. Chris Sale will get the start in Saturday’s matchup while the Marlins will go with right-hander Max Meyer.
Sale has gotten off to a good start this season and is even more important to the Braves in wake of Spencer Strider’s injury. Sale has pitched into the sixth inning in both of his starts this season. He allowed four hits, two runs and struck out six over 5 1⁄3 innings in his last outing against the Diamondbacks. Sale has only made two appearances against Miami in his career where he has allowed 13 hits and six runs in 11 2⁄3 innings.
Meyer will be making his third start of the season after missing all of the 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He was the Marlins first round pick in 2020 and was a Top 100 pitching prospect before the injury. He allowed three hits, one run and a walk in six innings against the Cardinals in his last start which is one of two Miami wins this season. Saturday’s game will be his first career appearance against the Braves.
Atlanta missed out on some scoring opportunities early in Friday’s opener, but blew the game open with a five-run seventh inning. Marcell Ozuna finished with three hits, including his team-leading sixth home run of the season. Orlando Arica also had three hits and added two more doubles to his ledger. Ronald Acuña Jr. had two hits and reached base three times. He is 4-for-11 over his last three games and has picked up five stolen bases during that span.
Saturday’s game is set for a 4:10 p.m. ET start and can be seen on Bally Sports South.
