Bryce Lance was a three-star prospect out of Marshall Senior High School. He played both wide receiver and basketball, making him a two-sport athlete. Lance is also the brother of former No. 3 overall pick quarterback Trey Lance. He committed to play his college ball at North Dakota State.
Lance redshirted his freshman season, and over the next two years (2022 and 2023) he primarily contributed on special teams, recording just one reception during that span.
In 2024, Lance finally earned a larger role on offense and broke out with a massive season. He surpassed 1,000 receiving yards and scored 17 touchdowns, dominating the Bison receiving corps as the next closest receiver finished with just 392 yards. His performance established him as the clear top target in the offense.
Lance continued his success in his final season, recording another 1,000-yard campaign while again leading the team in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. During his time at North Dakota State, he earned All-American honors twice and helped the Bison win two FCS National Championships. Rookie Profile | Strengths and Weaknesses
Bryce Lance is a big sleeper in this NFL Draft process. He has been an elite producer over the last two years. Lance shows a good initial burst off the line of scrimmage and accelerates well as he works through his route. He has decent footwork that helps him create separation, and he tracks the ball well with strong hands at the catch point.
He is the type of receiver an NFL team will want to get into open space because of his ability to produce yards after the catch. Lance was even used on end-arounds, showing the versatility he can bring to an offense. He also clearly has a nose for the end zone, scoring 25 touchdowns over the last two seasons.
Lance isn’t a perfect prospect. He could stand to be a more refined route runner, as his route tree isn’t as complete as you’d like to see from an NFL-ready receiver. He can struggle against physical coverage, often getting knocked off his route timing by more aggressive defensive backs. As a blocker, he leaves more to be desired and won’t offer much in that phase early in his career.
You also have to question the level of competition he faced at North Dakota State and whether his production will translate against elite NFL defenses. On top of that, Lance is an older prospect who will be 25 at the start of the NFL season, which can limit his long-term dynasty appeal. Lance’s upside is a Michael Pittman Jr.–type receiver, but with less physicality and blocking. His floor is Donovan Peoples-Jones—a rotational deep threat with inconsistent volume.
