The brawling and chippiness at the first joint workout between the New York Giants and the Detroit Lions escaped no one. Just about everyone was involved from players to executives.
Giants quarterback Daniel Jones even got into the action. That drew a hilarious reaction from Pro Bowl edge rusher Brian Burns.

“Oh lawd,” Burns said. “Daniel got jiggy with it? Daniel was out there with it? Yeah! Yeah! I’m going to need him to back up. Let his O-line handle that.
“Daniel is a competitor; he’s a fighter. I don’t expect anything less from him, but I don’t need him in there. I don’t need him to get hit. Keep him healthy.”
Jones told reporters afterward that just because he’s a quarterback it doesn’t preclude him from joining in the extracurricular activities when they break out.
There were fights everywhere during practice and when there weren’t, there was at least some sort of cheap — or overly physical — hit involved.
The two teams will try this again on Tuesday, with their eyes on the preseason game at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night. Maybe they’ve gotten the feistiness out of them and can get some work done.
