Braves sign Eddie Rosario to minor league deal, per report

Some more roster related news for the Atlanta Braves. MLB.com’s Mark Bowman reports that the Braves have signed veteran outfielder Eddie Rosario to a minor league deal. Rosario was cleared waivers and was released by the Nationals Thursday.

Rosario signed a one-year deal worth $2 million with the Nationals during the offseason but it didn’t go well as he hit just .183/.226/.329 with seven home runs and a 54 wRC+. Washington designated him for assignment earlier this week.

Rosario will always be remembered fondly by Braves fans for his postseason heroics in 2021. He re-signed with the club on a two-year deal following the World Series win. He appeared in just 80 games in 2022 after undergoing surgery on his eye. Rosario produced a 100 wRC+ in 142 games in 2023 but Atlanta chose to decline his third-year option. Rosario hit just .240/.289/.408 with 26 home runs and an 87 wRC+ in 222 games over the last two seasons combined.

Per Bowman, Rosario will report to Gwinnett Friday night. The Braves’ outfield has been decimated by injuries to Ronald Acuña Jr and Michael Harris. The team has used a musical chairs approach to try and find some production so it wouldn’t be completely surprising to see Rosario get a shot at some point.
