Braves reinstate catcher Sean Murphy from injured list

The Atlanta Braves are getting a key piece of their lineup back from injury. The team announced Monday that catcher Sean Murphy has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list. His activation was part of a series of roster moves made after the injury to Ronald Acuna, Jr. yesterday.

Murphy suffered an oblique strain on Opening Day in Philadelphia and was placed on the injured list. The Braves were careful not to rush him back but it has been a long and slow process. Murphy began a rehab assignment with Gwinnett this week. He caught seven innings in his first game Tuesday and homered in his first at-bat. After sitting out Wednesday, Murphy DH’d Thursday and added a double and another homer. Murphy appeared in 108 games last season and hit .251/.365/.478 with 21 home runs in 438 plate appearances.

Chadwick Tromp combined with Travis d’Arnaud and kept the catcher position afloat while Murphy was out. Tromp drew praise from the pitching staff for the way he handled things behind the plate and appears to be sticking on the active roster, at least for now.
