Braves recall Bryce Elder to start Tuesday’s game in Milwaukee

As expected, the Atlanta Braves announced Tuesday that they have recalled right-hander Bryce Elder from Gwinnett. Brian Snitker announced after Monday’s loss that Elder would start Tuesday’s game in Milwaukee. Elder takes the roster spot of Darius Vines, who was designated for assignment Monday night.

Atlanta needed a starter Tuesday after electing to push Chris Sale and the rest of the rotation back for an extra day of rest. Elder hasn’t seen much success at the major league level in 2024 where he has a 6.35 ERA in 39 23 innings. However, he does have a 4.61 FIP and a 4.25 xFIP over that span so there has been some underperformance as well. His last start came on July 20 where he served as the 27th man for a doubleheader against the Cardinals. He was hit hard in that outing allowing eight hits and six runs but also finished with nine strikeouts in five innings.

Vines allowed three runs (two earned) in the eighth inning of Monday’s loss. He’s allowed 21 hits and 13 earned runs in 13 23 innings across four appearances at the major league level this season.
