The Atlanta Braves fell behind early and never recovered in an 11-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday night. Following the game, the Braves optioned Darius Vines back to Gwinnett and will add a fresh arm before Saturday’s game.

Vines was added to the roster on May 20 in between games of a doubleheader against the Padres. He was available out of the bullpen all week but didn’t get into a game. He was a candidate to start Friday, but the Braves elected to go with Ray Kerr instead.
Vines entered Friday’s game in the fifth inning and struggled allowing six hits and six runs over three innings. He threw 78 pitches and finished with two strikeouts and a walk.
