The Atlanta Braves began the road trip on a high note after defeating the Miami Marlins 8-1. Max Fried got the start and appeared to be in midseason form, as he tossed 6.1 frames. He gave up just one run on four hits, struck out four, and surrendered a base on balls.
“I was working really well with Travis tonight,” Fried said postgame. “The big thing was just going back to who I am, and that is changing speeds, using both sides of the plate, and not worrying about results.”
“The last couple of outings I haven’t felt like myself,” he added. “It was nice to go out there and give us a good chance to win. It was a close game for a long time, and obviously the guys came through. It was a really good one to build off of.”
Offensively, the Braves jumped in front early, courtesy of Austin Riley’s RBI double in the first. Atlanta tacked on another run in the fifth, then blew it open in the seventh with another five runs. To cap it all off, the Braves scored once more in the ninth.
Up next, the Braves aim for the series win against the Fish as game two gets underway this afternoon at 4:10 ET.
