Braves 2B Whit Merrifield exits game after HBP in head

Braves second baseman Whit Merrifield exited the game on Tuesday night in the 7th inning after getting hit in the back of the head with a 95mph fastball.

Merrifield went to the ground but seemed to be OK all things considered, as he never lost consciousness and was able to walk off the field under his own power. We will await an update from the Braves after the game once Merrifield has undergone testing.

Luke Williams entered the game for Merrifield and played second base for the remainder of the evening.

The Braves have been snakebitten in the batter’s box this season, recently losing Austin Riley to a broken hand on a HBP in Anaheim. Ozzie Albies also suffered a broken toe back in May while in the box. It’s been a season of crushing injuries, and we’ll hope for the best with Merrifield as he undergoes testing this evening.
