Atlanta Braves shuffle bottom of their lineup and add Travis d’Arnaud

The lineups are out for tonight’s series opener in Cincinnati between the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds. There aren’t too many major changes to what the Braves have going on for tonight when compared to what they had last night but it’s still worth talking about. Who doesn’t like talking about lineups, right?

Anyways, here’s the starting nine for Atlanta:

The first five names are identical to what the Braves trotted out for their series finale against the Dodgers. It’s also identical as far as having a catcher bat sixth but Sean Murphy isn’t the catcher for tonight’s game. Instead, Travis d’Arnaud is back in there and making his third start since returning from the Paternity List, so he’s clearly back in the regular swing of things.

Meanwhile, the bottom portion of the lineup has seen a slight shift as Whit Merrifield has switched places with Orlando Arcia in the lineup. That may have to do with the Reds sending out a LHP, that may have to do with how Brian Snitker’s gut is feeling. I think all we want is for the good version of this lineup to show up instead of the one that can only muster a few hits and maybe score a run.

Meanwhile, here’s the lineup for the Reds:

This lineup brought the Reds some success over the past few days, as they picked up a series win over the Twins that included two wins where they scored eight and 11 runs, respectively. Those were two of their biggest days at the plate so far here in September, with the biggest one coming on September 4 against the Astros. With that being said, things did come to a screeching halt for Cincinnati on Sunday and hopefully they’ll continue to stay cold starting tonight against the Braves.

Tonight’s game starts at 6:40 pm E.T. and can be seen on Bally Sports South and listened to on 680 The Fan/93.7 and on the Braves radio app no matter where you are.
