Atlanta Braves News: Series sweep, Spencer Schwellenbach, and more

The Atlanta Braves extended their losing streak to five games after Thursday’s 16-7 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, who completed the sweep.

From the starting pitching, to the lackluster offense, there was nothing going for the Braves, who reached their 54th loss of the season.

Parker Dunshee was able to make his major league debut, but it was nothing impressive as he was tagged with five runs in 2.1 innings.

The club selected the contract of Dunshee on Thursday morning, and in the same move, recalled Eli White to Atlanta, optioned Dylan Dodd to Gwinnett, and designated Eddie Rosario for assignment.

Up next, the Braves have a three-city road trip that begins tonight in Denver.

More Braves News:

Spencer Schwellenbach is not slated to pitch in the upcoming series against the Colorado Rockies. Instead, Grant Holmes and Max Fried are penciled in, along with an undetermined starter. Schwellenbach is not being “shut down” but is just being pushed back.

Jhancarlos Lara had an incredible Wednesday outing with 12 strikeouts. More in the minor league recap.

MLB News:

The Chicago White Sox fired manager Pedro Grifol in his second year. His squad recently snapped a 21-game losing streak. Grady Sizemore will take over as interim manager.

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired right-hander Tommy Nance from the San Diego Padres in exchange for cash considerations. The Blue Jays already selected Nance’s contract, as left hander Genesis Cabrera was placed on the paternity list.

Colorado Rockies right-hander Germán Márquez will miss the remainder of 2024 due to a stress reaction in his right elbow. He was originally placed on the 15-day IL in July with elbow inflammation.

Chicago Cubs reliever Adbert Alzolay will undergo Tommy John surgery and could very likely miss the full 2025 season.
