Atlanta Braves News: Padres preview, Schwellenbach’s AA debut, more

The Atlanta Braves continue the homestand with a four-game set against the San Diego Padres this weekend.

The Braves enter play 26-14 after a series win against the Cubs earlier this week. Atlanta is three games behind the division lead and is seeking another series win.

The Padres are just below .500 with a 22-24 record. They are 7.5 games out of first place in the NL West. San Diego arrives in Atlanta after a terrible series against Colorado, where they suffered a sweep.

The series gets underway tonight at 7:20 ET with Max Fried on the bump. The left-hander is coming off a successful start in New York, where he tossed seven scoreless innings. He faces right-handed Matt Waldron, who owns a 1-5 record this season.

Game two is set for Saturday night at 7:15 ET. Bryce Elder gets the nod and is seeking his second win of the season. He opposes right-hander Yu Darvish, who has been nothing short of amazing after his stint on the injured list in April. However, Darvish has been known to have a tough career versus Atlanta.

The series will continue on Sunday at 7:10 ET, and the Braves will send out Reynaldo Lopez, who has earned his spot in the starting rotation. He has faced the Padres for just one inning during his career and looks to continue his impressive resume. The Padres have not announced their starter.

The series finale is set for Monday afternoon at 12:20 ET. Chris Sale, who just turned in an incredible start against the Cubs, will get the ball. The Padres have yet to announce their starting pitcher.
