Atlanta Braves News: Offensive Outburst Results in Series Split, Reynaldo Lopez Awaits MRI, more

The Braves cannot have just a simple, uneventful Sunday it seems.

Two Sundays ago, Atlanta suffered a disappointing loss to the Cardinals along with losing both Max Fried and Ozzie Albies to injury.

Yesterday, the results on the field were a bit better with a 9-2 victory over the Mets to earn a series split. It was also one of the better offensive showings of the season for the Braves. However, the good vibes from the win were a bit underwhelming due Reynaldo Lopez exiting the game early due to forearm tightness. Lopez will undergo further evaluation via an MRI and his status will likely be update Monday.

Depending on that update, the status of the Braves starting rotation could continue to be in flux as the next week progresses. Of course, with the MLB Trade Deadline occurring on Tuesday afternoon, Alex Anthopoulos could always look to add talent, especially if Lopez has suffered a significant injury.

Another bit of positive news from Sunday is that Max Fried continues to show positive progress in returning from his own forearm issue that landed him on the injured list.

The Braves will face the Brewers next on their road trip, with Grant Holmes taking the mound in the series opener as Atlanta continues navigating some rough waters with its starting rotation.

Mark Bowman also highlights how Atlanta consistently has injuries get in the way of feeling good about improved play.

David Obrien looks at how the Lopez injury could make starting pitching a needed focus for Atlanta at the Trade Deadline.

On the trade rumor front, Jon Heyman states the Braves have been in talks with the White Sox, with multiple players from the White Sox being sensible targets for the Braves.

MLB News

The big trade of the day on Sunday was Isaac Parades going to the Cubs in exchange for Christopher Morel and two prospects.

The biggest name who potentially could be moved by the Tuesday deadline is Blake Snell, as several teams remained interested.

The overall expectation over the next day and a half is that plenty of moves, some unpredictable, are still to come.

The Phillies lost to the Guardians on Sunday, their fourth straight series loss.

The Padres strengthened their bullpen with the addition of Jason Adam from the Rays.

Catcher Carson Kelley was traded to the Rangers. He had signed with the Tigers as a free agent over the winter.

The Cardinals have continued interest in starter Eric Fedde while other teams have interest in acquiring Tommy Edman from St. Louis.

The Marlins placed Josh Bell on waivers early on Sunday.

Devin Williams was reinstated from the injury list after missing the entire season up to this point due to back issues.
