If there is one positive from yesterday for the Braves, it is that they finally experienced some positive rather than negative injury news on a Sunday with the return of Max Fried to the mound. However, that is where the good vibes ended for the Braves, as the offense once again went dormant in a 7-0 loss to the Marlins. Atlanta’s second straight loss to Miami resulted in a very disappointing series split.
The fact that Fried struggled on Sunday is not all that surprising as he was returning from injury. However, one of the main reasons that Sunday’s result was frustrating is because once again the inconsistency of the Atlanta’s offense showed up at an inopportune time. Entering Saturday, the Braves were within five games of the Phillies in the NL East. However, after Sunday’s loss, Atlanta is now six games back, and is now tied with San Diego at the top of the NL Wild Card Standings.
Back to back losses will occur. However, these losses occurring versus a Marlins team without much talent on their roster after the trade deadline is eye-opening. Atlanta has now suffered seven shut-out losses this season, their most since 2018. While the recent power surge has been great to see, offensive consistency has to improve for this team to emerge as a true threat in the NL Playoff picture.
