Atlanta Braves News: Austin Riley exits, Allan Winans to start, more


The Atlanta Braves made a couple of moves on Tuesday by placing third baseman Austin Riley on the paternity list and recalling infielder Luke Williams to Atlanta.

Riley exited Monday’s game in the ninth inning after his wife went into labor. Players can be on the paternity list for three games, so Riley will rejoin the team on Thursday for their series in New York.

Williams, who was already in the dugout at the time of Riley’s exit, has appeared in 13 games this season and logged one hit.

Another rainout has forced the Braves to play a split doubleheader today against the Cincinnati Reds. Allan Winans is penciled in to start game one, with Chris Sale to follow in game two.

Right-handers Hurston Waldrep and Jimmy Herget each began rehab assignments with the Florida Complex League. Waldrep tossed two innings and gave up a run, while Herget tossed a scoreless inning.

The Braves have officially signed all 20 of their 2024 MLB Draft picks.

With the trade deadline quickly approaching, the Braves are reportedly interested in Washington Nationals outfielder Lane Thomas.

Right-hander Luke Sinnard rounds out the 19-24 section of the Braves’ Top 30 Prospects.

MLB News:

The Boston Red Sox are reportedly interested in left-hander James Paxton, who was recently designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The New York Mets have reportedly signed outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. to a minor league deal. The 34-year-old will report to Triple-A Syracuse.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly checked in on left fielder Randy Arozarena. The club has also been linked to pitcher Tarik Skubal.

The Los Angeles Angels reinstated Luis Rengifo from the 10-day injured list. In order to create an open roster spot, the club designated infielder Keston Hiura for assignment.

The Seattle Mariners placed shortstop J.P. Crawford and outfielder Julio Rodriguez on the 10-day injured list. Crawford fractured his right hand and Rodriguez is dealing with a right ankle sprain.

The New York Mets placed right-hander Christian Scott on the 15-day injured list with a UCL sprain. The move is retroactive to July 22.
