Alex Anthopoulos discusses Braves’ struggles

Atlanta Braves president and general manager Alex Anthopoulos met with the media ahead of Wednesday’s matchup with the Baltimore Orioles. Anthopoulos discussed the team’s recent struggles and said that he has been on the phone much more than normal for this time of the year, but cautioned that nothing was imminent.

Anthopoulos admitted that the team hasn’t played well but also mentioned that the majority of the National League also hasn’t played well which is something that works in the Braves’ favor. Anthopoulos added that he didn’t want to make excuses for the offensive struggles and wouldn’t point to the rash of injuries that they have dealt with. He admitted that the Phillies have been outstanding, but at the end of the day, it is about making the postseason and giving yourself a chance.

Anthopoulos added that the players and coaches are putting in the work off the field. He said in his conversations with other GMs, it is come up that other teams don’t feel as though they have been as productive offensively as in the past. There has been a notable shift in offensive performance league wide through the first two and half months of the season.
