NFL free agency is the first real jolt of excitement for dynasty managers after the offseason lull. Beginning Wednesday, March 11, 2026, player movement will reshape the IDP landscape and, in some cases, dramatically shift dynasty values overnight.
In this 2026 NFL Free Agency Reaction IDP Edition, I’m breaking down 15 key defensive players who changed teams and what their new landing spots mean for dynasty IDP managers. This will be an instant reaction to the first wave of defensive free agents, focusing on how these moves could impact roles, opportunity, and future dynasty value.

Defensive Line Free Agency Reactions (DL)
Trey Hendrickson since joining the Bengals in 2021:
💥 57.0 sacks (3rd)
💥 299 pressures (5th)
💥 17.4% pressure rate (2nd)
💥 92.2 pass rush grade (5th) pic.twitter.com/sOlchTW3b9— PFF (@PFF) May 13, 2025
Trey Hendrickson | DE | Age 31 | Baltimore Ravens
It’s no secret that Trey Hendrickson has been one of the most impactful EDGE rushers in the NFL over the past few seasons. It was also well documented that he was unhappy with his contract heading into last year, and it seemed to affect his production. Hendrickson managed just 4 sacks in 7 games before missing the final eight games of the 2025 season. The veteran pass rusher still cashed in during free agency, signing a four-year, $112 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens after their reported trade attempt for Maxx Crosby fell through. Baltimore gets a much-needed boost to their pass rush, and if Hendrickson can return to his 2024 form—when he led the league with 17.5 sacks and finished as the DL11—this could be a strong bounce-back opportunity for IDP managers.
Jaelan Phillips | DE | Age 26 | Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers tried to address several defensive needs through last year’s draft, but the unit still lacked a true difference-maker off the edge. While the upside of young pass rushers Nic Scourton (DL72) and Princely Umanmielen (DL191) is intriguing, Carolina clearly wanted a proven veteran presence. They found that in Jaelan Phillips, who signs a four-year, $120 million deal after playing all 17 games for the first time since 2022. Phillips is still only 26 but has battled injuries and will now be on his third team in the past year. The former first-round pick has yet to record a double-digit sack season, so IDP managers should keep expectations in check. Still, if Phillips can stay on the field, the talent is there for him to start rebuilding some trust with dynasty managers.
Bradley Chubb | DE | Age 29 | Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills will enter the 2026 season with a new head coach for the first time since 2017, but one thing hasn’t changed—their tendency to hand out money to veteran EDGE rushers every offseason. This year, it’s Bradley Chubb, who joins the Bills on a three-year, $43.5 million deal. Chubb bounced back nicely in 2025 after missing the entire 2024 season, finishing with 8.5 sacks and a DL32 finish. From an IDP perspective, this signing doesn’t really move the needle. If anything, it just adds another body to the rotation and continues to cap the overall ceiling for Greg Rousseau moving forward.
Odafe Oweh | DE | Age 27 | Washington Commanders
Odafe Oweh heads to the Washington Commanders on a four-year, $100 million deal after recording 7.5 sacks last season. He posted Pro Football Focus’ 17th-best pass-rush grade (78.0) in 2025 and continues to trend in the right direction as a pass rusher. Oweh has totaled 17.5 sacks over the past two seasons and is steadily developing into a reliable EDGE presence. For IDP managers, he’s an intriguing buy-low option, especially with so much attention shifting toward the talented EDGE class in the 2026 rookie draft.
K’Lavon Chaisson | DE | Age 26 | Washington Commanders
Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders weren’t done addressing their EDGE group after signing Odafe Oweh. The team also brought in K’Lavon Chaisson on a one-year prove-it deal following the best season of his career in New England, where he recorded 7.5 sacks in 2025. The former LSU standout also generated 54 pressures last season and should have an opportunity to see an increase in snaps in Washington’s defense. From an IDP perspective, Chaisson is still best viewed as a DL4 or DL5 who can provide depth and spot-start value throughout the season.

Linebacker Free Agency Reactions (LB)
Devin Lloyd | LB | Age 27 | Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers clearly understood the assignment this offseason after last year’s frustrating lack of production from their linebackers. Carolina wasted little time addressing the position, signing Devin Lloyd to a three-year, $45 million deal to step in as the team’s LB1. The former Jacksonville Jaguar has recorded 100+ tackles in three of his four NFL seasons and has added nine interceptions during that span. Lloyd finished last season as the LB42, but this move should give him the opportunity to return to a more productive role. He provides both the Panthers and IDP managers with a linebacker capable of piling up tackles while also delivering impact plays.
Quay Walker | LB | Age 25 | Las Vegas Raiders
It’s not often that a highly productive 25-year-old linebacker hits the open market, so it didn’t take long for the Las Vegas Raiders to take advantage. The team signed Quay Walker to a three-year, $40.5 million deal to bolster their linebacker group. The former Georgia Bulldog has racked up more than 400 tackles, along with 9 sacks and an interception, through his first four NFL seasons. A few minor injuries and some reckless moments that led to fines and suspensions likely played a role in him reaching free agency. Even so, Walker has finished as a top-30 fantasy linebacker in each of the past two seasons and should settle in as a top-15 dynasty LB for the foreseeable future.
Kaden Ellis | LB | Age 30 | New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints have probably regretted letting Kaden Ellis walk after his breakout 2022 season. Since leaving, Ellis has piled up over 370 tackles with division rival Atlanta, proving just how valuable he can be when given a full-time role. The Saints weren’t about to make the same mistake twice, bringing him back on a three-year, $33 million deal early in free agency. Ellis has been a tackle machine over the past two seasons, finishing as the LB4 in 2024 and LB24 in 2025. From a dynasty perspective, this move doesn’t change much—Ellis remains a reliable high-end LB2 for IDP managers.
Tremaine Edmunds | LB | Age 27 | New York Giants
It’s kind of wild to realize Tremaine Edmunds is still only 27 years old after entering the league as a first-round pick back in 2018. While it’s fair to say he hasn’t fully lived up to the sky-high expectations many IDP managers had early in his career, his consistency is hard to ignore. Edmunds has recorded 100+ tackles in all eight seasons and has totaled over 900 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and 14 interceptions during that span. He averaged 18.7 fantasy points per game last season, which ranked 8th among linebackers. The veteran linebacker joins the New York Giants on a three-year, $36 million deal. Edmunds may not get much hype in dynasty circles, but he remains an extremely reliable producer as long as he’s locked into a starting role.
Nakobe Dean | LB | Age 25 | Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders doubled down on improving their linebacker room, adding another former Georgia Bulldog to the mix. Nakobe Dean joins his former college teammate Quay Walker, signing a three-year, $36 million deal to strengthen the unit. The former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker struggled to find consistency early in his career but broke out in 2024 with 128 tackles and an LB7 finish. If Dean can stay healthy and maintain that level of production, the Raiders could quickly develop one of the best young linebacker groups in the league. Dynasty managers should be encouraged by the opportunity here and optimistic about Dean’s long-term value.
Defensive Back Free Agency Reactions (DB)
Nick Cross | DB | Age 24 | Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders continued their aggressive approach on defense in free agency, landing one of the top IDP defensive backs in Nick Cross. The former Indianapolis Colts safety has been outstanding over the past two seasons, finishing as the DB2 in 2024 and then as the DB3 in 2025. Cross signed a two-year, $14 million deal and becomes one of several defensive additions Washington has made this offseason. The young safety should fit well in Dan Quinn’s system and is likely to maintain similar production, keeping him firmly in the top-five DB conversation for dynasty IDP managers.
Kevin Byard | DB | Age 32 | New England Patriots
It’s not often that a 32-year-old safety changing teams in free agency gets IDP managers excited, but Kevin Byard isn’t your typical veteran defensive back. He’s quietly been one of the most consistent producers in IDP fantasy football for years. Over his 10-year career, Byard has recorded 36 interceptions and has continued to produce at a high level, totaling 298 tackles since turning 30. Now he reunites with his former head coach, Mike Vrabel, in New England on a one-year, $9 million deal. The move should allow Byard to continue doing what he’s done best—provide steady production—and he should remain firmly in the top-15 DB conversation, just as he has over the past two seasons.
Bryan Cook | DB | Age 26 | Cincinnati Bengals
As much as we all love the Cincinnati Bengals‘ offense for fantasy football, the defensive side has been a different story for IDP managers. Bryan Cook joins the Bengals on a three-year, $45 million deal, adding another talented piece to a secondary that already includes Jordan Battle (DB2) and Geno Stone (DB7)—both of whom finished inside the top 10 in fantasy points last season. This move likely makes the Bengals a better defense overall, but it may not be great news for IDP production. With another capable safety in the mix, I’d expect some regression in the fantasy output for both Battle and Stone heading into 2026.
List of players with 50+ passes defensed and 20+ tackles for loss in their first 4 NFL seasons since at least 2000:
🔸Alontae Taylor@Titans https://t.co/CyR1w1SOHQ
— NFL Researcher (@NFL_Researcher) March 9, 2026
Alontae Taylor | DB | Age 27 | Tennessee Titans
In the IDP fantasy football world, the cornerback position is often treated as an afterthought. Alontae Taylor has been one of the rare players to break that trend over the past few seasons. He’s finished as a top-25 DB in each of the last two years, including a CB1 finish in 2024 and CB5 in 2025. The former New Orleans Saints corner landed a three-year deal this offseason with the Tennessee Titans that includes $42 million guaranteed, the most of any defensive back in free agency. Taylor should continue to be a top option at the CB position and remains one of the few cornerbacks worthy of a roster spot, even in leagues that don’t require the position.
Coby Bryant | DB | Age 26 | Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears didn’t waste much time addressing the safety position after losing both starters from last season. Coby Bryant, fresh off a Super Bowl run with the Seattle Seahawks, heads to Chicago on a three-year, $40 million deal. Bryant has really come into his own over the past two seasons, totaling 139 tackles and 7 interceptions. Once Seattle selected Nick Emmanwori in the 2025 NFL Draft, it became clear that Bryant’s long-term future with the team was uncertain. This move to Chicago should give him a clear opportunity to produce, and his dynasty stock could see a nice bump heading into the 2026 season.
Final Dynasty Takeaways
Free agency is the first real step in the offseason team-building process and gives us our initial look at how the IDP landscape could shift heading into the new season. That said, depth charts are far from finalized. The NFL Draft is right around the corner, and before we know it, we’ll be diving into training camp battles and preseason storylines.
For dynasty IDP managers, this is the time to stay proactive. Some of these signings create immediate value, while others simply open the door for new opportunities across a defense. The sharpest dynasty managers will use this window to identify buy-low opportunities before the rest of their league realizes they’re already two steps behind.
