Drew Allar attended Medina High School in Medina, Ohio, where he broke school records with 9,103 career passing yards and 98 touchdowns. As a senior, he passed for 4,444 yards and 48 touchdowns, which earned him Ohio’s Mr. Football award, MaxPreps Ohio Player of the Year honors, and a first-team all-state. He was invited to the Adidas All-America Bowl and earned Elite 11 honors. Allar was rated as a five-star recruit by 247Sports and the top quarterback in the 2022 class. ESPN was a little lower on Allar and labeled him a four-star and the No. 2 quarterback nationally, while Rivals gave him a four-star rating and ranked him sixth-best among quarterbacks in the nation.
Allar committed to Penn State and saw the field immediately as a true freshman in 2022. Allar set an FBS record by completing 311 consecutive attempts without an interception to start his career. He continued his dominant run during his sophomore campaign, throwing for 2,631 yards, 25 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. Those numbers produced a 12.5-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio, which ranked second nationally, and earned him All-Big Ten honorable mention. In Allar’s junior season, he was named a team captain, earned Davey O’Brien Award semifinalist recognition, and was on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Top 10 list. Allar’s senior season was cut short due to an ankle injury, limiting him to just six games.

Rookie Profile | Strengths and Weaknesses
When you look at Drew Allar, you immediately see a quarterback with prototypical size. At 6’5”, Allar displays all the physical tools and arm talent to make any throw on the football field. Allar also displays excellent throwing velocity, allowing him to fit the football in tight windows. While he is not considering a dual-threat quarterback, Allar does have rushing upside with 12 career rushing touchdowns during his college career. Allar is not afraid to put his body on the line to gain extra yardage. When watching his game, you cannot help but see shades of Josh Allen
. I am by no means saying Drew Allar is the next Josh Allen, but they do play with a very similar playstyle.
Many questioned Allar’s decision to return to Penn State for his senior season, as Allar had the potential to be a first-round draft pick had he come out in 2025. His decision to return to school turned out to be the wrong one. Allar’s 2025 season was a forgettable one, as Penn State had a disappointing season that led to the firing of James Franklin, while Allar’s season was cut short by an ankle injury. Allar will need to improve his accuracy and footwork at the next level. Sometimes, Allar tends to miss “lay-up” throws through his sloppy footwork. Allar will also have to improve his processing of defenses.

In the NFL Draft, I view Allar as Day 2 or early Day 3 pick with the Los Angeles Rams as a dream landing spot for Allar to sit and develop behind Matthew Stafford.
